Scott McKay’s dedicated, tireless contribution to the Miramichi sports community spanned more than twenty years as a hockey and baseball coach, a referee, and an administrator.
He had an intense love for the sport of baseball and coached for 20 years at all levels from Mosquito to Junior. His disciplined approach earned him respect and admiration from players, parents and coaches alike. His teams won Provincial Championships in 2003 (Mosquito “AAA”), 2008 (Midget “AAA”), and 2011 (Junior). He coached his team at National Tournaments in 2005 (Pee Wee “AAA”), 2009 (Midget “AAA”), and 2012 (Junior). He also served as President of Chatham Minor Baseball for several years.
Scott also coached hockey for ten years starting at the initiation level and advancing through the system to the Bantam “AAA” level. He also sat on the Chatham Minor Hockey Board as it’s official’s representative.
Scott was the Zone 6 referee representative for the NBHOA for 10 years where he scheduled all games and tournaments locally. A Level 5 official, he refereed countless games often filling in himself when others were unavailable. He had a great passion for officiating and passed on his knowledge and love for the skill through the many clinics he led. Scott was well-respected across the province by all who knew him.
Scott is a welcome addition to the Wall of Fame.
